More action, less talk.

About

Hello. My name is Andrew Schulak, and this website is my creation. I'm glad you've come to visit, and I would like to tell you a little about the Altruistic Tank and why I have created it, and what I hope it can become.

What is this project?
With Altruistic Tank I seek to use the Internet to match people creating ideas for pro-social projects and no resources, with people with resources and an interest in patronizing pro-social projects.

The idea behind the project is akin to the Renaissance days when "Patrons" would form personal relationships with "Artists" and would commission them to create works of art. I want to promote the same kinds of relationships, only this time the form of art is compassion.

On this website Artists can login and create and update as many projects as they like. Patrons can login and browse and search through available projects, looking for ones that match their interests. Electronic Agents will be available to actively help notify Patrons find matches even when they are not logged in.

The goals of this project are simple. I seek to provide exposure for budding altruists, as well providing a tool for philanthropists to pro-actively find new projects to sponsor.

Why am I doing this?
When you have the desire to change the world, to make society better, it can be very difficult and frustrating to find other people who share your passion. Where do you go? Whom can you talk to? I want to provide a place for these people, people like myself, to come. A place where we can let our ideas sail. A place where our ideas can be heard.

Also, on the other side of the fence, I know that there are people out there who would like to to be more pro-active in their philanthropic endeavors. I know that there are people who want to do more than just write a check to charity and not think about it again. For these people I want to help them meet exciting new people who have the ideas and the drive to better society. I want to encourage them to make relationships with these people to change the world.

Lastly, and simply, I want to see people act on their passion. I am tired of people not doing what they really want to do just because "it's too hard to get a grant" or because "I have all these ideas and nowhere to show them."

What are my goals for the future?
Beyond making matches I would like to start acting as a Patron as soon as possible. I would like the Altruistic Tank to become a real, concrete and steel institution. I would like this institution to provide room, board, education and resources to budding Artists for periods of one year. This is my real dream.

In the world I imagine I see the Altruistic Tank becoming a a thriving community made of people dedicated to bettering our society in many ways. Perhaps some people will work to reform education, perhaps some will work for animal rights, perhaps some will work to better the arts. Who can say until we try? Who can know what good can be done until we take action and start empowering the people in our community who want to make our lives better.
